Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary said that the population control was essential for establishment of a healthy society.
Addressing an event organised by Hyderabad District Medical & Health Department on the occasion of World Population Day at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan on Tuesday, the Speaker said almost one third of world's population lives in China and India. He said if the population continues to grow at present rate then there would huge shortage of land and other resources. India's population was nearly 60 crore in 1980 and it increased to about 130 crore during the last 36 years. He said India was a bit successful in birth control using scientific and modern methods.
The Speaker stressed on better coordination among various department for effective implementation of population control measures.
The function was also addressed by Health Department Joint Director Dr. Padmaja and other senior officials.
