Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday entered his new official residence named Pragati Bhavan at 5.22 am along with his wife and family members. The new complex which is spread over 9 acres has come up close to the existing camp office-cum-residence of the Chief Minister in Begumpet.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, his wife Vimala Narasimhan, Kcr's daughter and MP K. Kavitha, nephew and state minister Harish Rao and state ministers and top officials attended the ceremony. The new house is estimated to have been built at a cost of over Rs 50 crore, the complex, "Pragathi Bhavan", comprises the CM's residence, office, conference hall and the two existing buildings.

The CM is facing criticism from the opposition parties, which have accused the CM of wasting public money at a time when the farmers are undergoing hardships due to crop failure.

Telugu Nadu Students Federation (TNSF) activists led by its chief Madhusudhan, tried to stage a protest outside the CM house but were arrested by the police. The TNSF chief demanded the state government to immediately clear dues under fee reimbursement for students.
