Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday demanded that the Central Government sanction a railway zone to the state with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters.
Speaking in the Legislative Council on the inaugural day of monsoon session, the Chief Minister said that a separate railway zone at Visakhapatnam would help in the development of the state. Speaking on the special financial package announced by the Union Finance minister to the state, Mr Chandrababu Naidu demanded the government to announce a specific road map defining the terms and deadline for the implementation of the promises made as part of the financial package announced by the Centre. The Centre should release a detailed notification in this regard, the CM demanded.
Both the houses of the state legislature were rocked by protests by the YSR Congress, which demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister.
The opposition legislators were on their feet as soon as the house met. They wore black clothes to protest against the Centre's alleged refusal to accord the special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
The Assembly was adjourned for the day soon after both the houses of the state legislature ratified the GST Bill.
