GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Saturday directed all the advertising agencies to remove unauthorized hoardings, uni poles and vinyl flexies which poses threat to the lives of common people.
He also directed the GHMC staff to take all precautionary measures to tackle the emergency situations.
The Mayor said that Friday’s wind speed was about 150 kilometers per hour as mentioned by the Metrological Department. In view of Friday’s experience, he has instructed the advertising agencies to constitute a committee with experts in Structural Engineering. He said that the GHMC was also planning to constitute a committee with senior engineers from JNTU and Osmania University. Based on their suggestions, the State Government would be urged to take a policy decision in this regard.
Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin said that many hoardings with flexies were posing danger, especially in South Zone area, for which he has instructed the advertising agencies to conduct inspection on immediate basis and remove all such hoardings and flexies.
GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said that the hoardings and unipoles which are 15 years old must be either removed or strengthened to withstand winds of about 150 KMPH. He also warned the agencies that GHMC would not tolerate any irregularities in this matter.
The Representatives of various advertising agencies assured the Mayor and the Commissioner that they would take immediate action to remove all the flexies duly sending the emergency teams and would also cooperate with the GHMC in following the guidelines.
