JAC seeks Home Minister’s nod for Maha Garjana

Hyderabad, Jan 1: The Osmania University Joint Action Committee (JAC) of students on Friday urged Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy to permit it to hold the proposed ‘Telangana Vidhyarthi Maha Garjana’ on Jan 3.The JAC leaders while welcoming the Centre’s decision to hold talks with recognized political parties on the Telangana issue, urged the Home Minister to allow the students' convention and lift police cases against the students. They insisted that the political parties should ensure that cases against students are withdrawn before the talks begin.

The JAC leaders said they have decided to go ahead with the proposed Vidyarthi Garjana on January 3 in spite of the invitation from the Centre. The students also expressed their annoyance over the withdrawal of resignations by ministers following the Home Ministry decision to invite eight political parties for consultations and termed it as an ‘ill-conceived’ act.A member of JAC felt the Centre's invitation to political parties for talks might be a ploy to water down the proposed Garjana and said they would go ahead with the programme even if  the Government withholds its permission.
