Bandh in Anantapur evokes wide support

Anantapur,Dec 16: A massive rally of student unions and political parties, cutting across party lines, protesting the police lathicharge on the students of Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU), evoked unanimous support from all sections of people here on Wednesday.Students of all hues staged protests and dharnas against the police high-handedness across the district as part of the all-party committee sponsored ‘Anantapur bandh’ in the day. All shops and business establishments downed their shutters voluntarily extending support to the united Andhra Pradesh and demanding stern action against the police for justifying the lathicharge on the SKU students.

Supporting the integrated Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam MLA Paritala Sunitha and other members began an indefinite fast in front of the District Collectorate.Telugu Desam MLC Nannapaneni Rajakumari who extended her solidarity with the fasting members, tried to visit the place when the police arrested her. The police also arrested TDP leader K Srinivas and Congress leader Visveshwara Reddy along with N Rajakumari.Rajakumari also entered into a verbal duel with the police when they tried to apprehend her. Meanwhile, several TDP activists organised dharnas and rasta-rokos against the arrest of Nannapaneni Rajkumari.
