Mayor,be bold Madam!

Hyderabad,Dec 5: It was a wise move to project a woman candidate as the mayor of Greater Hyderabad. Make no mistake,she is well educated, her noble intentions are never in doubt,and her credential too is indisputable but to cleanse the political system from within,a Corporation needs not only a  veteran but a shrewd leader.The mayor-elect Banda Kartika Reddy seems to be neither a veteran in politics nor an astute leader of eminence. It was evident the way in which she was addressing the media immediately after being chosen mayor of Hyderabad. At every point in her speech she was given promptings by senior leaders.

When she faced a volley of questions from the media on assuming charge as mayor, she frequently fumbled and sought the help of other leaders. Her face-to-face interview with a TV channel also exposed her lack of knowledge over the issues she had to deal with.The very fact that she does not know the full name of Minister for Municipal Administration Anam Narayan Reddy is still more embarrassing.Karthika, a postgraduate in sociology, she never was in active politics all these days.

Even her name also did not do the rounds in the list of probables considered by the party till the last moment.However, her husband Banda Chandra Reddy has been a strong Congress leader for the last several years with a big clout in the Congress circles.  It is likely that Chandra Reddy would play a key role and keep Karthika in the seat by playing behind the wings.
