In about seven to eight thousand acres of land accessible to National highway and railway track, a Pharma City or a group of Pharma Cities are likely to come up around Hyderabad city in about a year’s time.
The pharma city will include both industries as well as residential colony. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao mentioned this to a group of members belonging to bulk drug manufacturers association led by President Sri.Jayanth Tagore and General Secretary R.K.Agarwal.
The Chief Minister said that the proposed pharma city would be beyond the expectations of drug manufacturers. It will be highly exemplary and pollution free and with its coming up the pharma industry will bound to grow multi fold. He said that the pharma city is expected to accommodate about five lakh employees besides their families in the residential colony touching about twenty lakh over a period. The Chief Minister also said that a power plant with 500 MW capacity will be established adjacent to the pharma city to provide captive, dedicated and uninterrupted power supply to the pharma industry. For the pharma city the required land, infrastructure facilities, Communication facility, power supply, water supply etc., will be provided by the government.
KCR desired that once the pharma city is developed all the drug and pharma industries should move there including ancillaries.
Earlier, the Association President and General Secretary making a presentation to the Chief Minister on the salient features of Telangana Pharmaceutical Industry mentioned that 30 per cent of medicines exported to USA are from Telangana State. The total production is valued at Rs.65,168 crores and exports of medicines from Telangana state are valued at Rs.32,584 crores. They said that Pharmaceutical Industry in Telangana contributes substantially to Central and State exchequers. The direct and indirect employment generation is one lakh to five lakhs respectively.
The Chief Minister suggested that international-level best consultancy organization, expert in developing industrial estates, should be contacted to design the pharma city. The drugs manufacturers' association requested the Honorable Chief Minister to create an exclusive department for pharma subject to which the Chief Minister responded positively.
Principal Secretary to Chief Minister S.Narsing Rao, Addl Secy to Chief Minister Smitha Sabarwal also attended the meeting.
