Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Thursday strongly criticised the procedures adopted for the election of Swamy Goud as the Chairman of Telangana State Legislative Council.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here, Ponnala said that the elections of Chairman's post were held in blatant violation of Constitutional norms and established procedures. He said it was ridiculous to conduct the elections through secret ballot when the major opposition parties - Congress and TDP have boycotted the elections. He alleged that the TRS won the post purely by encouraging defections in Congress and TDP.
Ponnala accused Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of resorting to unethical politics by resorting to horse trading. He alleged that the Congress MLCs were lured to join the TRS just a few days before the election of Chairman. He advised KCR to focus on fulfillment of promises that he made to the people instead of concentrating on mere political gains.
