Scores of farmers across several districts of Telangana took to streets on Friday in protest against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao accusing him of going back on his promise of waiving off farm loans up to Rs one lakh.
Farmers organised 'rasta roko' at several places in Nizambad, Medak and Karimnagar districts. Kcr's effigy was also burnt at several places in the new State. The farmers are demanding that the TRS Government waive off farm loans up to Rs one lakh without any pre-conditions. They said that the TRS did not mention any rider when it made the promise in its manifesto in the recent elections. However, Kcr diluted his promise and announced that farm loans up to Rs One lakh taken only during 2013-14 would be waived off, they alleged.
Protests were organised in Timmangar, Jukkal and Balakonda of Nizambad district. Similar protests were also reported from Dachepally of Karimnagar district.
Meanwhile, one farmer of Kcr's native Medak district committed suicide allegedly due to the pre-conditions laid by the new government. The deceased, Dattatreyya, took the extreme step at his residence in Kasipur of Zaheerabsad mandal. He took about Rs 90,000 loan in the last two years against his farm land of about two acres.
