Khammam,Nov 24: Former Union minister,Congress leader Ms.Renuka Choudary urged the Centre to enlist cotton under the Essential Commodities Act in the best interests of the farmers.Speaking to the media at the District Congress Office here,Renuka said cotton farmers would continue to suffer every year due to poor weather conditions and hence,the Government had to protect the benefits of the farmers.The number of Cotton Corporation centres should be increased in the district,she suggested.Renuka said concerted efforts would be made to fight against the negligent attitude of the management of the Paleru Sugars, owned by Telugu Desam floor leader in Parliament, Nama Nageswar Rao.
The management would try to water down the benefits of sugar cane farmers,she alleged.Renuka demanded that the management of Paleru Sugar factory repay Rs. 4 lakh to the Government used by her under the MP LADs to develop the factory when it was run by the co-operative society. The Irradiation plant work has just begun for which the Government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore and it will be completed soon, she said. ``If the plant is completed, the green and fruit revolution will come into the district,''she said.The construction of Kendriya Vidyalaya would be completed by the beginning of the next academic year, she said.
