Several Ysr Congress Party MLAs were taken into custody by the police when they staged dharna before Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's office in the State Secretariat demanding convening of a Special Assembly session.

However, the Chief Minister reportedly rejected the demand stating that the Telangana Resolution could be defeated in the Assembly and there was no need for a special session. Not happy with the Chief Minister's reply, the MLAs including B Shobha Nagireddy, Karunakar Reddy, Srikanth Reddy and others staged protest opposite the C-Block. They were immediately taken into custody by the police and were shifted to the Saifabad Police Station.

The YSRCP MLAs originally planned to lay seize to the Chief Minister's camp office at Begumpet. However, when Kiran Kumar Reddy left for Secretariat, they changed the plan and sought his appointment. They went ahead with the protest after meeting the Chief Minister.
