The High Court on Monday posted for hearing the bail petition of Telugu Desam MLA of Kovvur T V Rama Rao, who has been embroiled in a controversy of sexually abusing nursing students in a college run by him at Nidadavole, to July 31.
The court posted the bail petition of MLA, as the police investigation revealed that Rao was liable to be booked under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty). The CID is investigating a complaint on an alleged murder of a student in the college against the MLA as blood stains were found in his office.
Additional SP of CID Gopalraju, who is the investigating officer in the case, appeared before Justice Reddy in response to summons issued to him following submission of the West Godavari SP’s report. The chairman asked him to furnish details of the investigation on August 3.
B Balakrishna, Superintendent of Police of West Godavari district, has concluded that the MLA was indeed guilty of outraging the modesty of girl students.
Quoting the report, Justice Reddy told that the girls did not initially reveal the acts of the MLA against them out of fear.
However, investigation by police revealed that Mr. Rao was liable to be booked under Sec. 354 of Indian Penal Code (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty).
He also posted for hearing the petition of the MLA alleging violation of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for the same day.
According to police sources here, the MLA cannot escape from being arrested and jailed.
Quoting a Supreme Court ruling, they maintain the deposition of the girl victims was enough to arrest the MLA. Since molestation is a non-bailable offence, he has to be behind bars till the trial is completed. Rama Rao has applied for anticipatory bail but is not likely to get it.
