Naidu's past will haunt him: YSRCP

Ridiculing the bravado of Telugu Desam party leader N Chandrababu Naidu who announced that he will take up the issue of corruption and will be going to the people, YSR Congress has said that his disgusting past will continue to haunt him as his governance has pushed people to distress and suicides.

“Naidu telling that he will don the role of the crusader of corruption does not go well with the people as they still have the memories of  his nine-year term during which they had undergone severe hardships,” party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu told reporters here on Wednesday.

It is surprising to note that Naidu has gone to the extent of commenting on the functioning of the Governor as he did not respond to his memorandum seeking the dismissal of the tainted ministers. Naidu has vowed to take up the issue with the President, Pranab Mukherjee.

Rambabu said that the government failed to file a counter on the 26 GOs in the High Court but ministers filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court contending that the orders were in tune with the business rules. It was intentionally done, as the Congress wanted to keep YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in jail.

To bring some credibility, the government has arrested one minister Mopidevi Venkataramana before taking YS Jagan Mohan Reddy into custody.

The names of two ministers coming out one after the other is only to drag the case for a longer period. If the ministers could not influence the witnesses how can YS Jagan Mohan Reddy influence the witnesses? At least that is one ground on which our leader is kept in jail, he said.

Naidu, instead of going to Raj Bhavan should have moved a no confidence motion which could have settled the issue. “But that is not what Naidu wanted. He wanted to save the Kiran Kumar Reddy government on one hand and at same time wanted to be free from any case against him,” Ambati said. The past of Naidu is littered with scams, manipulations and blatant misuse of power and he has no moral right to talk about corruption, he added.

In IMG Bharatha case, he has shown undue favour to a lesser known company and issue is still pending with the courts. The Telgi stamp paper scam, the way his party headquarters was built by an interested party, the way in which the public sector and cooperative sector institutions were ruined are still afresh in the memory of people, he said.

“It was Chandrababu Naidu who has brought in corporate culture into electioneering and only under his leadership did the electioneering took a mercantile proposition from a popularity plank,” Rambabu said.

With such credentials, if Naidu goes to town speaking about a corruption-free society it looks awkwardly outrageous, he said.
