Research cell coming up at NPA

Hyderabad,Nov 6: Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram  who graced the passing out parade of Indian Police Service (IPS)probationers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Police Academy here on Friday asserted that the  country is well equipped to meet the attacks of terrorists or Maoists which will disturb the sovereignty and integrity of  the country.He was cautious in saying that there is always room for improvement in this particular area so we should not rest on ourlaurels.Speaking at the passing out parade of IPS officers he said that we are not only growing in population but also as an economic and military power in South Asia.

After attaining such heights we cannot take  things lightly but be alert.Referring to the upgradation of security system in the country he said the Government is focusing on three principles to raise the confidence level among the  IPS officers.The three  principles are  building capacity competence and confidence.The capacity of the police force is increasing day by day.So also the level competence is  being raised  to scale new  heights.At the same time the government is also taking effective measures to create confidence not only among the police  personnel but also in the public.To set up a research cell at the academy that some  financial assistance would be granted to the academy.The academy administration has proposed Rs 2.5 crore ,as corpus fund for the research cell during the  financial year 2010-2011.For the  sustenance of the cell an annual grant of Rs.20 lakh is likely to be allocated.

As the academy has introduced mid-career training programme for IPS officers,he announced that a 120-room senior officers mess would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.30 crore.The government is  also planning to increase  the strength of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)at the academy in order to make it more secure.Chidambaram  was happy to note  that  the academy had started paying attention to new challenges like guerrilla warfare,jungle warfare,gathering and dissemination of intelligence and special tactics.
