Pro-Telangana leaders on Thursday claimed that statehood for the region will be a reality in the next few days.
Addressing a silent protest held at Gun Park, former PCC president K Keshava Rao said that now nothing could stop formation of Telangana State. He hoped that separate State would be a reality by this month-end. He said people of the region have tolerated injustice for the last 60 years and they would breathe in freedom after a few days.
Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram alleged that Seemandhra leders were deliberately hurting the Telangana sentiments and they should restrain from doing so. He warned the Seemandhra leaders of dire consequences, if they try to sabotage the Telangana formation. He also accused the Congress party of frequently changing its stance on the statehood issue. He demanded that the Congress party honour the promise it made on December 9, 2009, of forming Telangana State.
CPI State Secretary K Narayana said that further delay in formation of Telangana would only complicate the issue and poison the atmosphere in all the regions. BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreyya said that the people of the region were suffering due to the delay in formation of Telangana. He promised that BJP would form the State within 90 days if it returns to power at the Centre in 2014 elections.
Congress MP Rajagopal Reddy, former MPs Chukka Ramaiah (BJP) and B Vinod Kumar (TRS), Ch Vidyasagar Rao (BJP), Employees JAC leader Srinivas Goud, MPJ leader Hamed Mohammad and other leaders addressed the gathering.
