TRS MLAs held for staging dharna before CM's office

The MLAs of Telangana Rashtra Samithi were arrested by the police when they staged dharna in front of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's chambers in the Legislative Council over energy crisis.

Talking to reporters at Legislative Council after submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Trs Deputy Floor Leader T Harish Rao said that the Chief Minister has failed to honour his promise of supplying seven hours of power to the farmers. He accused the Chief Minister of not utilizing the Srisailam Dam water to generate power despite the reservoir receiving good inflows. He alleged that Kiran Kumar Reddy has issued orders for illegal release of water from Srisailam dam to KC Canal and Krishna Delta farmers.

Harish Rao also charged that the Chief Minister was not showing his commitment in purchasing power from other States to resolve the crisis. If the Chief Minister is unable to resolve the power issue, he should step down from his post, he demanded. Nagarkurnool MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy also joined the dharna for a few minutes to express his solidarity with the Trs MLAs.

Later, the police arrested the Trs MLAs with the help of assembly marshals after they refused to call off the dharna.
