TDP to issues fresh statement on Telangana issue

The Telugu Desam Party will soon come out with a clear statement on the issue of statehood for Telangana region.

This was disclosed by senior TDP leader Gali Muddukrishnamma Naidu after the meeting of Telugu Desam Legislature Party held at the NTR Trust Bhavan here on Friday. Stating that the party stands by its original statement on separate Telangana, he said that the TDP would soon issue a fresh statement that would clear all the confusions.

According to sources, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to convene a meeting with party's leaders of Telangana region in the next week to draft a fresh statement. After arriving at a consensus over the issue, the party is likely to issue a statement that could save it from the criticism by both pro-Telangana and pro-Samaikhyandhra groups.

Meanwhile, Muddukrishnamma Naidu alleged that he was mistreated by the police officials during the party's MLAs' dharna at the office of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at the State Secretariat two days ago. He said that the Secretariat staff was asked to shut down water and power supply in the C-Block and even toilets were locked while the TDP MLAs were staging dharna. Alleging manhandling by the police, he said that he could have died and only God saved him on that day.
