The Telugu Desam Party on Saturday organised Maha Dharna at the Prakasam Barrage to highlight the plight of farmers affected due to non-release of water from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam to Krishna delta region.

The Maha Dharna witnessed some tension following obstructions created by the police. Mylavaram MLA and Krishna District TDP president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao had a heated argument with police personnel and staged a dharna at Potti Sriramulu Statue.

Later, talking to reporters, Umamaheshwar Rao asked the State Government as to why it was not filing a counter petition in the High Court before August 27 over its orders. He said that he would intensify his agitation for the farmers' cause until the government releases water for Krishna delta from the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. He said that the government washed off its hands off by releasing a mere 3.5 TMC of water instead of 15 TMC to the Delta region.

Farmers from Krishna, West Godavari, Guntur and Prakasam districts participated in large numbers in the dharna.
