Several Telugu Desam Party activists including MLAs were arrested by the City Police on Thursday when they tried to barge into the Chief Minister's Camp office at Begumpet alleging State Government's indifferent attitude in resolving the power crisis.
Following a call for 'Chalo Camp Office' given by the party, several TDP leaders and workers gathered around the CM's Camp office in the morning. They raised slogans against the government and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. They had a heated argument with the security personnel when they were prevented from barging into the CM's official residence.
Sensing that the situation was going out of control, the police arrested them and shifted to Punjagutta Police station.
Later, talking to media persons, TDP MLA Mahidhar Reddy came down heavily on the government for arresting the TDP activists. When the leaders came to raise the power crisis issue, he said that the government was resorting to arrest the leaders. “This is not a good sign in the democracy and it resembles emergency in the State,” he said.
The TDP leader alleged that due to severe power crisis managements of several industries were laying off employees and it would lead to serious social unrest. At least now the Chief Minister should respond on issue and take suitable steps to resolve the crisis, he demanded.
