Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Sunday demanded that the State Government continue the Fee Reimbursement scheme without any modifications.
Talking to reporters here, Hanumantha Rao said that it would be wrong on the part of the State Government to say that it would only reimburse only Rs 31,000. Further, the advise being given to the students to take the remaining fee amount as loan from the banks was not practical as the banks does not give loans to the poor students, he said.
The Rajya Sabha MP said that the government should not take the risk of diluting the Fee Reimbursement scheme, especially at a time when mid-terms polls are feared. He said the move to deviate from the original scheme would prove disastrous for the Congress party and it would be de-linked with the youth and students' community.
Hanunmantha Rao appealed to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to continue the scheme in its original form to ensure that the Congress government remains popular among the youth.
He also ridiculed Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu's BC Declaration wherein the party promised to give 100 seats to the candidates of Backward Classes. He advised Naidu to hand over the post of TDP floor leader to a BC or SC leader before implementing the BC Declaration. He expressed doubts over the fulfillment of Naidu's promise to the BCs.
Hanumantha Rao also informed that the Congress party would conduct Sadbhavana Yatras across the twin cities on the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi's Jayanti.
