Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Saturday said that the government was making all efforts to provide infrastructure facilities and faculty members in the State-run colleges.
Addressing a conference of degree college lecturers at the JNTU Fine Arts College in the city, Rajanarasimha appealed to the teaching community to improve teaching standards and performance of students in the examinations. Admitting the shortage of infrastructure facilities and faculty members in various departments, he said that the government was taking all measures to provide better facilities in the government-run colleges on par with corporate colleges.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the widening of gap between the government run and private colleges would lead to social inequalities in the society. “It is the responsibility of all lecturers to improve performance among the students and make them as role model citizens,” he said. He also appealed to parents to change their attitude towards their students and encourage them to study as per their interest in particular subjects instead of forcing them to study engineering or other professional courses.
Rajanarasimha asked the lecturers to do self-introspection as to why the government colleges have failed to attract students despite providing all infrastructural facilities and faculty. He also came down heavily on engineering colleges for their failure to follow basic standards, in maintaining quality and in providing better infrastructure facilities.
