Former minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Tuesday demanded that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana resign from their posts owning moral responsibility for the party's failure to win the recent by-elections.
Talking to media persons at Assembly premises, Dr Shankar Rao said that that the Congress party has lost the by-elections mainly due to lack of proper guidance from the district in-charge ministers of respective constituencies and they should be held responsible for debacle in the by-elections. He also accused the district in-charge ministers of indirectly supporting the candidates of YSR Congress party in the elections which led to defeat of party's candidates. He said the party never won the by-elections when the leaders from Seemandhra region occupied the PCC president's post.
Stating that the party cadre was ready to work under the new leadership, he demanded that the Congress High Command replace the leadership in the State immediately to revamp the party's image. Responding to appointment of Ministerial Committee to find out reasons for routing, Dr Shankar Rao said that there was no use of such an exercise without changing the leadership.
