Former minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Saturday ridiculed Rajya Sabha MP K Chiranjeevi's remarks that the Congress party was able to win two seats in the recently held by-elections because of him.

Talking to reporters at Balamrai after visiting the Secunderabad constituency along with the Revenue Department and GHMC officials, Dr Shankar Rao said that Chiranjeevi could not take the credit for party's victory in Ramchandrapuram and Narsapuram constituencies. He said that the party won both the seats due to the hardwork of local cadre. He said if Chiranjeevi was so sure about his charishma and the cadre of erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party, then the party should have won the Tirupati assembly seat.

However, Dr Shankar Rao said that the Congress should introspect its approach towards the party cadre and prepare a strategy to win the 2014 general elections.

The former minister also accused Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy of covertly supporting the YSR Congress party. He said the Chief Minister played a major role in the victory of YSRC party candidates in 15 assembly seats. Targeting Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana, he said that a majority of leaders worked for the YSRC in the by-elections due to various reasons.

Dr Shankar Rao claimed that he possesses sufficient evidence to support his allegations and would produce the same before the Congress High Command, if required.
