Congress observer Vayalar Ravi on Friday said that the Congress party lost the by-elections mainly because of the sympathy wave due to the arrest of YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy by the CBI in connection with disproportionate assets case.
However, he said that the results were as expected and he has already predicted that they would be in favour of YSRC.
Talking to media persons here, Vayalar Ravi said that the people voted in favour of YSRC following sympathy wave emerged out of Jagan's arrest and campaign led by Pulivendula MLA YS Vijayamma and her daughter Sharmila. Stating that the results have opened the eyes of the Congress party, he attributed the party's defeat to sympathy factor and not any other reason.
Vayalar Ravi said that the by-elections have again stressed the importance of strengthening the Congress party in the State.
Responding to the Telangana issue, he said that the Congress party was making complete efforts towards resolving the issue in a speedy manner.
