Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary B V Raghavulu on Wednesday stated that the state government has totally failed to eradicate caste discrimination despite making hard efforts. Addressing a rally organized at RTC Cross Roads to protest against the violence, which claimed lives of four Dalits at Lakshmipuram in Vangara mandal in Srikakulam district on Tuesday over a land dispute, Raghavulu stated that this incident has exposed the government inefficiency in preventing caste discrimination despite implementing welfare programmes for uplifting various communities. Demanding that the government own moral responsibility for the killing of Dalits in Vangara mandal, he urged the government to distribute one acre of land to next to kin of victims’ family. He also demanded the government to appoint a SC/ST Commission to look after their welfare in the State. After staging a protest rally, the party activists burnt an effigy of state government and raised slogans against the government.
