The CBI court at Nampally on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on bail petition of YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with disproportionate assets case, to May 31.

In the bail petition, Jagan stated that he has to campaign in the ensuing by-elections as the YSR Congress party president and requested that the court grant him bail. He also stated that his arrest was illegal and appealed to court to grant bail to enable him to campaign for his party candidates.

After hearing the arguments of Jagan's counsel, the CBI court directed the CBI to file counter petition in this regard and posted the petition for next hearing on May 31.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday permitted Jagan to file a quash petition against the CBI claiming his arrest as improper in the disproportionate assets case.

Following the High Court permission, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s counsel would file quash petition on Wednesday terming the arrest by the CBI 'illegal' and 'improper' particularly at the time of by-election. Jagan’s counsel also took serious objection over the CBI court remanding Jagan to judicial custody for 14 days under Cr PC Section 309.

Meanwhile, the CBI has moved a petition in the High Court seeking custody of Jagan Mohan Reddy. After hearing the preliminary arguments of CBI, the court permitted the CBI to file a petition on Wednesday.

Earlier, the CBI court rejected the CBI's petition seeking Jagan Mohan Reddy's custody for further questioning.

Meanwhile, Jagan's family members including his mother Y Vijayamma and wife Bharathi met him at Chanchalguda Jail on Tuesday morning.
