Former minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Tuesday requested Speaker Nadendla Manohar to accept his resignation as the member of the legislative assembly.
Jupally, who was elected on Congress ticket from the Kollahpur assembly segment in Mahabubnagar district in 2009 elections, has quit the party over Telangana issue and joined Telangana Rashtra Samithi on October 29. He also submitted resignation from the MLA's post.
On being summoned, Jupally met the Speaker at his chambers in the State Legislative Assembly building on Tuesday to give clarifications on his resignation. "I have requested the Speaker to accept my resignation," he told reporters, later.
Jupally claimed that this was the right time for the Centre to announce formation of separate Telangana. He said further delay in taking a decision on the Telangana issue would prove costly for the Congress party. He said that the Congress party should realise its mistakes and announce a favourable decision on Telangana.
Referring to the passing of resolution in Uttar Pradesh assembly for division of state into four parts, he said that UP chief minister Mayawati has challenged the supremacy of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh with her move.
Two more MLAs - S Satyanarayana and T Rajaiah who have joined the TRS from the Congress party have been summoned by the Speaker on Wednesday for clarification on their resignations. While Rajaiah was elected from the Station Ghanpur seat in 2009 elections on Congress ticket, Satyanarayana was elected as an independent and was an associate MLA of the Congress party.
