The Chaitanyapuri police have registered a cheating case against Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday for allegedly reversing his decision on his poll promise on the Telangana state formation.
The case has been registered on the directions of Ranga Reddy District court issued which passed orders based on a petition filed by a local advocate Janardhan. It may be mentioned that Janardhan moved the court last month seeking action against Naidu for cheating the people of Telangana region.
Janardhan argued that the TDP had promised to work for realizing the Telangana statehood and introduced a resolution in its party manifesto in 2009. However, the TDP cheated the four-and-half-crore people of region by reversing its stand, the petitioner argued. "The violation of election promise on Telangana state amounts to cheating. I appeal to the court to order filing of cheating case against Naidu," the petitioner said.
The court had directed Chaitanyapuri police station to register a cheating case against Naidu. With the police ignoring the court order, the petitioner Janardhan again moved the court on Tuesday, following which a case was registered under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. The court also asked the police to file First Information Report against Naidu and submit it in the court in this connection.
The court also directed the police officials to give explanation within a week as to why no case was registered earlier.
