Former Minister Komatreddy Venkat Reddy on Wednesday alleged that the withdrawal of general strike by the employees has diluted the Telangana statehood agitation.
Komatreddy, whose indefinite hunger fast demanding Telangana entered second day on Wednesday, told reporters that he launched the fast to revive the spirit of Telangana agitation, which was diluted due to withdrawal of general strike of employees. Thousands of his followers have joined him in the hunger strike that he launched on Tuesday near Clock Tower in Nalgonda.
The former minister said that the spirit of agitation would continue with more vigour to achieve statehood for the Telangana region. “I am ready to sacrifice even my life for Telangana”, he said.
Stating that he would never withdraw from fast until the Centre announces roadmap for bifurcation of State, Komatreddy expressed confidence that he would achieve his goal soon. He claimed that he has received overwhelming response for his fast from all sections of people in the district. All leaders, across party lines, have extending whole hearted support for the indefinite fast, he stated. He hoped all Telangana leaders would join his hunger fast in the coming days.
Komatreddy warned of serious consequences if the government tries to foil his hunger fast which is being observed in a Gandhian way. However, he expressed confidence that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would announce her decision on Telangana soon.
Meanwhile, the doctors in district conducted a medical check up on Komatireddy and stated his condition as stable.
