Officials informed the Chief Minister that shortage of working period, poor response to tenders and construction of major structures within a less working time is resulting in the delay in the execution of works.  The officials informed the Chief Minster that permission should be accorded to take up innovations in structural designs so as to expedite the construction of major structures.

The Chief Minister assured to provide financial assistance during the working season, but wanted the officials to plan in such a way that all the works taken up during the canal closure time are completed as scheduled.  He pointed out that the delay in the completion of works is resulting in cost escalation which serves no purpose either to the government or to the farmers. The Chief Minister suggested that standardized design procedure should be followed.  He also said that while taking up modernisation works in Godavari and Krishna delta systems, priority should be given to works useful to farmers.

Referring to the Nagarjuna Sagar Modernization Project, the Chief Minister wanted the officials to strictly adhere to the scheduled canal closure date. He wanted that the farmers should be informed well before the beginning of the crop season about the canal closure date and the date should not be extended under any circumstances so that modernisation works can be completed before the beginning of the next cropping season.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that all the 15 packages in Nizamsagar Modernisation project have been grounded and the works are scheduled to be completed by December 2013. The KC canal modernisation work has been taken up with JBIC funds in two tranches. 44 packages have been taken up under The Tranch-I have been completed while work on the Tranch-II is in progress and targeted to be completed by June 2012.
