Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha on Friday demanded that the Telugu Desam party president N Chandrababu Naidu and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy make their stand clear on Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project.
Responding to the allegations levelled by the TDP against TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and Telangana Political Joint Action committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram over the project contract given to KCR on benami names, Kavitha described the allegations as `baseless’ and `far from truth.’ “The TDP leaders are making meaningless allegations over the award of Polavaram contract to benami of TRS” she stated.
Talking to media persons at her residence, she stated that the TRS has been opposing the construction of the project since five years as it displaces thousands of villagers in Khammam district apart from submerging fertile lands in the region. The TRS has also been opposing the construction of irrigation project at Dummugudem, she pointed out.
Kavitha asked whether TDP chief Naidu would support displaced people in the project or support the landlord in Seemandhra region, who would get benefitted after the construction of project. She also reminded that the Chief Minister will have to face the wrath of the Supreme Court as the case was pending in the apex court due to a petition filed by Orissa government.
Responding to a question, she said the TRS would consider Polavaram project if the government makes sufficient changes the design of project.
