Senior Congress Leader K R Amos on Tuesday stated that the United Progressive Alliance Government has to prevail upon its allies over the sensitive Telangana statehood issue before taking any decision.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office, Amos appealed to Telangana leaders to wait for a few more days as the Congress led UPA government has to prevail upon its allies over the formation of Telangana state. Stating that the consultation process with allies going on, he appealed to all Telangana leaders to wait for some more time to emerge consensus on the issue.

Regarding the demand for resignations from the posts, Amos said that the Congress leaders had submitted their resignations which were rejected by Speaker Nadendla Manohar. He asked the critics to explain the format on which the Telangana Congress leaders have to submit resignations afresh so that they would be accepted.

As a ruling party, he said the Telangana Congress leaders would mount pressure on Centre to take a favourable decision on statehood issue. He appealed to Telangana leaders to withdraw agitation as the general strike of employees has been causing lot of inconvenience to people.
