CM warns T activists against violence

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday issued a stern warning to those resorting to violence in the name of Telangana agitation.

Addressing the party workers of Hyderabad city at camp office at Begumpet, the Chief Minister said that the Hyderabad has always been a cosmopolitan city, where people belonging to different regions and religions have been living peacefully for decades. Therefore, any attempt to break the law and order situation in city would not be tolerated, he said.

The Chief Minister was highly critical of the on-going general strike stating that it has been causing lot of inconvenience to the common man. "Any agitation that is hurting the poor cannot be good. If the strike does not end now, then people themselves will revolt against it," he said.

Kiran Kumar Reddy also listed out the losses being suffered due to the general strike. He said the strike by the employees of Singareni Collieries have halted the coal production and consequently created power crisis in the State. Besides suffering huge losses due to lack of coal production, the State Government is forced to spend Rs 12 crore per day to buy electricity from other resources. "Entire state would be in darkness, if the strike continues," he said. Referring to the RTC strike, he said nearly 3,500 buses were off the road which is causing inconvenience to the lakhs of people every day.

The Chief Minister informed that the State Government would be spending Rs 650 crore for the second phase of MMTS and another Rs 900 crore would be spent to strengthen the city's infrastructure. He said the poor people in Hyderabad would be the major beneficiaries of one rupee kilo rice scheme.

City Ministers - Danam Nagender and M Mukesh Goud were also present on the occasion.
