While demanding a special package for Rayalaseema on the grounds that the region was backward as testified by the Srikrishna Committee Report, Minister for Minor Irrigation and head of the Rayalaseema Samaikhya Vedika T G Venkatesh on Thursday demanded that a separate capital for Rayalaseema be carved out.
“If the Centre announces any package for the development of Telangana region, a similar package should also be extended to Rayalaseema region,” the Minister said. Mr Venkatesh also wanted that a third capital be named for Andhra region so that people of all the three regions flourished. “This way development of all the regions would be ensured,” he said. However, the Minister said that he was opposed to bifurcation of the state with Hyderabad as capital of Telangana. “The Rayalaseema people are not prepared to lying low under the Telangana leadership,” he stressed while briefing the media persons at the Secretariat. Mr Venkatesh was inclined to integration of the state with three capitals rather than 'separation.' “This is what the Seemandhra leaders are going to inform the High Command when they visit New Delhi shortly,” the Minister stated. However, he was of the opinion that rights of the people of three regions be protected without any prejudices.
