Rename KU after Jayashankar

Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao on Thursday revealed that he had forwarded a proposal to rename the Kakatiya University in Warangal district after Telangana leader Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar who passed away on Tuesday.

The Textiles Minister, who faced rough weather when he visited Warangal recently in connection with the demise of Prof Jayashankar, told media persons at the Secretariat that he had proposed to rename the Kakatiya University as Jayashankar University in memory of the leader who had struggled and sacrificed for the separate statehood for Telangana.

Referring to the attack on him in the district, Dr Shankar Rao asserted that it was the work of unsocial elements and such violence only resulted in hampering the progress for achieving Telangana.

Stating that the attack on him was unpardonable, the Minister informed that leaders of other political parties also condemned it.

He is understood to have received calls from overseas condemning the attack incident.
