YSR’s dreams of bagging NID fulfilled

Hyderabad, Sept 25:

The National Institute of  Design  technology  has been allotted to  Hyderabad, thus  fulfilling the dreams of  late  Dr  Y S Rajasekhara  Reddy who rooted for  such an institution in state. This was disclosed to the media  by Union Minister of Commerce and  Industry  Mr Anand Sharma here on Friday. The new national design policy of the Government of India envisages to set-up four new NIDs in the pattern of the institute in Ahmedabad during the 11th Five Year Plan.  Hyderabad  is one of  the  four  avenues  selected  by the Centre   to set up an NID.

The  minister pointed out that  Hyderabad  will be the right place for setting up such institutes and was confident   that the state  would   provide necessary infrastructure including land for the NID. The  other   three institutes will be set up in  different   regions  as  decided by  the  Central Government.

Ysr  when he  was alive,  he  requested  the  Centre   for  the  NID, because NID will be  focusing on handlooms and handicrafts.  So  Hyderabad  is  ideally located in the state which could serve the other regions of Andhra Pradesh
