MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi out of danger

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Floor Leader in the state Assembly and Chandyangutta Legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi is stated to be out of danger after four bullets were removed from his body following the attack on his life earlier in the day.

The MIM Floor Leader and his party MLA Ahmed Balala, along with Barkas Corporator Mansoor bin Mohammed Awaqui were left seriously injured in an attack at around 11:15 AM. The three elected representatives were attacked with swords and then fired upon near the Marhaba Hotel, a Irani Cafe, in Chandrayangutta, Mr Owaisi’s constituency.

The MIM Legislator had just got in his car after ending his padayatra of his constituency when the assailants, allegedly supporters and relatives of a land dealer Mohammed Pahelwan, attacked him.

local According to information coming in, the three elected representatives were battling for life at the Owaisi Hospital at Santoshnagar.

MIM Legislators move freely in the Old City with minimal security.

The attackers first used swords and then fired on the Legislators which was retaliated by Malakpet MLA Ahmed Balala’s gunmen. The attackers then fired on the MIM Floor Leader who had by then injured by a sword slash.

According to information coming in, the retaliatory fire by Mr Balala’s gunmen led to the death of one of the attackers Ibrahim bin Younus Yafai. Two more of the attackers are believed to be battling for their lives in another hospital.

Ibrahim bin Younus Yafai is the son of Mohammed Pahelwan’s elder brother.

The MIM Legislators and Corporator were rushed to the Owaisi Hospital, around 1.5 KM away from the site of the attack where the doctors successfully managed to remove the bullets and save Mr Owaisi’s life. Mr Balala and Mr Awaqui’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Following the attack, the city police immediately clamped a security net in the Old City and additional forces have been rushed to meet any eventuality. Section 144 has been put in force.

Meanwhile City Police Commissioner AK Khan convened an emergency meeting with his officials. Mr Khan is believed to have ordered the police to immediately take all rowdy-sheeters under preventive custody.

A high-alert has been sounded across the city.

Mr Khan has also ordered all police person stationed in the city to cancel their leaves and rejoin duty immediately.

Around 20 thousand police men were deputed to the old city, he added. MIM party activists have been making their way to the Owasi Hospital and there is tension there since they are not being allowed inside the hospital.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy visited the Owaisi Hospital and inquired with the doctors about the treatment being given to the injured Legislators. He spent about 35 minutes at the hospital. Before arriving at the hospital, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the situation with Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy.

Meanwhile, leaders of all political parties have condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms.
