The Bhuvanagiri police in Nalgonda district on Saturday arrested five more persons in connection with the murder of former Maoist and Telangana Rashtra Samithi politburo member Sambashivudu, who was killed brutally near Gokaram village, Velgonda mandal of Nalgonda district on March 26.
The arrested have been identified as Arun, Krishna, Naresh, Ravi and Lingam. While Lingam hails from Ranga Reddy district, the rest belong to Nalgonda district.
The police also seized a vehicle believed to have been used by the killers from Vanasthalipuram on the outskirts of Hyderabad city.
The police are shifting these accused to Valigonda police station for further interrogation.
Earlier, the police identified the prime accused in connection with the murder of Sambashivudu as Naeem. Naeem is still at large.
With Saturday’s arrest, the number of people in custody with the murder has now increased to ten. Earlier, the police had arrested five persons in connection with the case. Those accused had been identified as Suresh, Rakesh, Srikanth, Sridhar and Amar.
According to reports, the reason behind the brutal murder of Sambasivudu was a land dispute between him and Naeem.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar had stated that 10 persons were directly involved in the murder out of 12 persons who attacked the former Maoist and all accused belonged to Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts.
Sambasivudu was brutally murdered on March 26 while returning to Hyderabad from Nalgonda district after attending a 'Dhoom Dham' programme in support of a separate Telangana state.
