Senior Telugu Desam Party leader and MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Tuesday blamed the statement made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on December 9, 2009 for the present crisis prevailing in the state.
Talking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, Mr Umamaheswara Rao said that All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee should be held responsible for the crisis in the state on account of the Telangana statehood demand.
“If union Home Minister P Chidambaram had not maked an announcement on Telangana on December 9, 2009, the crisis would not have risen at all,” the TDP leaders opined. He added that the announcement made by Mr Chidambaram has ended up dividing the people of the state on regional lines.
Mr Umamaheswara Rao also blamed the Centre for making diverse statements on Telangana and Seemandhra and confusing the people by adjourning the second all-party meeting conclave after the submission of Justice BN Srikrishna Committee Report.
He asked the Seemandhra Congress MPs to make their stand clear on the integrated Andhra Pradesh before the Centre, as it has already made clear that it would take a concrete decision on the contentious bifurcation demand once the results of the elections to Assemblies in five states are out in June.
Reacting on Telangana TDP MLAs demand for separate statehood, the Seemandhra MLA stated that elected representatives would have to fulfil the aspirations of people of the region.
