Lagadapati warned on Tank Bund Apology

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday warned Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal that it would initiate legal proceedings against him if he does not offer an unconditional apology to the party for his remarks which hinted that the party was behind the demolitions of statues on the Tank Bund on Thursday last.

Speaking to media persons at the Assembly Media Point party state unit president G Kishen Reddy said that Mr Rajagopal should tender an unconditional apology for his remarks made through an open letter he had written to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Mr Rajagopal had in that letter hinted that the CPI and Bjp had a significant presence in the Musheerabad and Himayathnagar area which are close to the Tank Bund. This and the fact that the agitators who had gathered on the Tank Bund on that day had raised slogans against Congress and the TRS but had welcomed the Bjp and CPI leaders, hinted that the leaders of the two parties were involved in the violent incidents during the Million March. He had also urged the Chief Minister to order the registration of cases against the leaders of the two parties.

Reacting to these innuendos, Mr Kishen Reddy said that Mr Rajagopal was making these baseless remarks against Bjp as he ‘lost his mental balance.’ The state Bjp chief told the Vijayawada MP to back his charges with clear evidence. “On what basis has the MP made such baseless and irresponsible comments against a national-level party. He has no moral right to talk against the Bjp,” he asked. Mr Kishen Reddy categorically stated that the Bjp has no connection with the desecration of statues on the Tank Bund.
