Revealing that the Congress would announce the list of its candidates for the Legislative Council seats by Sunday, Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas on Saturday ruled himself out of contention.
Speaking informally to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan after meeting Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Pcc Chief said that his political life was dictated by the orders of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Mr Srinivas tried to emphasise the immense respect he had for the party’s national president and said that it was she who would decide his political future.
Rumours that the Pcc Chief, whose political career has come into sharp focus after he lost the Assembly elections twice in succession, would try to enter the Legislatures had been doing rounds since the poll notification was issued.
Referring to the proposed Millennium March, Mr Srinivas appealed to TPJAC convenor Kodandaram to call for the postponement of the planned ‘siege of Hyderabad’.
He said that the future of students, who are preparing for the intermediate examinations, must be the kept in mind and the proposed March be postponed. The Pcc Chief also revealed that he had spoken to Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy to look into the possibility of postponing the examination scheduled for March 10, the day the Millennium March is scheduled to a later date, in case the TPJAC does not heed requests from all quarters
