Hyderabad, Sept 19 :
The ruling Congress has grabbed more seats in the elections held for local bodies—Mandal Parishads, Zilla Parishads and municipal bodies—whose members formed part of the electorate for the Local Authorities’ Constituency of Council.
Out of 19 Zilla Panchayat Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC), the Congress won 16 seats and TDP three. In the Mandal Prajaparishat Territorial Constituency (MPTC) polls, out of 17 constituencies, the Congress won 12 seats, TDP -2 and others won three.
Out of the five corporate bodies, for which the elections held, the Congress won four seats and TDP one. In the polls held for 15 municipal bodies, the Congress won four seats, TDP five and others won six seats.
Talking to media persons over the victory of Congress candidates in the local body results, the Chief Minister, K Rosaiah, said that the welfare and developmental programmes initiated by late chief minister YSR had percolated to the grassroots and yielding good results. Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas said that the results were a fitting tribute to the late chief minister.
Rajya Sabha member and late chief minister’s close confidante K V P Ramachandra Rao, Kadapa MP and Chief Minister’s son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy conveyed their greetings to all the winners.
