Accusing the ruling party of manipulating the proceedings and acting arbitrarily, Telugu Desam Party Deputy Floor Leader in the state Assembly Ashok Gajapati Raju on Saturday stated that the opposition was being totally marginalised on the Floor of the House.
Lashing out at Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar for not giving any time or even an opportunity to the Opposition to raise any issue of public importance, Mr Raju told media persons at the Assembly Media Point that the way the Assembly was being run was scuttling the very concept of democracy.
The senior TDP leader said that Mr Manohar was giving time to speak only to Ministers and the Government Whips and was then adjourning the House, at the slightest pretext. He said that the opposition was being marginalised to the extent that they could not raise any issue.
Referring to the Telangana issue without actually naming it, Mr Raju said that the onus was on the government to solve the issue on hand and allow the issues of public importance to be discussed and action taken on them. The government on the other hand was attempting to shift the blame on opposition parties and was trying to wash its hands off its responsibilities, the senior TDP leader alleged.
He also pointed out that the Congress was the majority party and was empowered to act and resolve any issue on hand, but was failing to do so.
