Demanding that a resolution calling for the introduction of a Separate Statehood Bill in Parliament is passed in the state Assembly, Telangana Telugu Desam Party Forum convenor Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Thursday said that his party MLAs will not let the Budget Session proceed.
Talking to media persons at the Assembly Media Point, Mr Janardhan Reddy said that the TDP MLAs from Telangana region would not allow the Budget Session to proceed till such a resolution is passed. He said that if the government does not introduce the resolution, it will not be allowed to table the annual Budget.
Mr Janardhan Reddy also criticised the statement by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in which he said that consensus needed to be evolved to resolve the Telangana statehood demand. He said that the Prime Minister’s statement hints that the Centre is looking to delay taking a decision on Telangana demand still further.
The senior TDP leader said that students are resorting to suicides because of being distressed due to the delay in the formation of a separate state. The Centre’s dillydallying on the issue may result in many more students taking their lives, Mr Janardhan Reddy stated.
The senior TDP leader also condemned the attack on Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan. He said that physical attacks on persons and properties are against the ethos of the TDP.
Mr Janardhan Reddy demanded that whoever resorted to the attack must apologise to the Lok Satta chief.
