Hyderabad, Sept 18 :
The exit of the Director General of Police (DGP) S S P Yadav is imminent. The state government has already begun preparations to that extent and already started searching for a suitable replacement.
According to reliable sources, a screening committee headed by Chief Secretary Ramakanth Reddy has been appointed to name the suitable and efficient candidate for the post.
The government also ordered Ramakanth Reddy to submit his report within a week. It seems the government is also considering other options to promote Additional Director General of Polices to the coveted post. In fact, several ministers have reportedly demanded action on the DGP for his failure to make proper security arrangements to late chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
The Home Minister and several other Cabinet members also complained against DGP for his failure to make arrangements for the funeral of YSR. Many of them could not attend funeral as they were stranded in the traffic jam from Vempalle to Idupalapaya for more than 8 to 10 hours.
Neither was there proper security cover for the VVIPs who attended the last rites of Dr Reddy.
The government is also irked over the DGP’s statement that equating the death of late chief minister in a chopper crash with the death of 300 persons in terrorist attack on World Trade Centre (WTC) in the USA. The government wants to take action on the DGP for cursing media persons in Tirupati that they would be infested with pests (purugulu padi pothaaru).
The DGP fumed at the media for targeting him in the helicopter crash incident. He wanted to know why the media was blaming him for flying by helicopter to Idupulapaya estate, when the government itself had not sought any explanation.
