Communist Party of India state general secretary K Narayana on Saturday stated that the party would launch an agitation against the state government protesting against the alleged indifferent attitude in addressing the problems of weavers.
Talking to media persons, the Left leader said the party would resort to road blockades on Feb 9 protesting the government attitude in not addressing the weavers problems.
He said that the party would lay siege to all National Highways and submit a memorandum to district Collectors to press for solutions to the weavers problems.
Mr Narayana said the condition of weavers has deteriorated since the government has not extended financial benefits to them. He demanded the state government to waive interest on loans availed by weavers and reschedule loans of weavers.
The veteran Communist leader also demanded that the government supply handlooms and dyes on subsidized prices to them and take steps for marketing their products.
Mr Narayana charged that the state government was responsible for the suicides of weavers and demanded compensation to next kin of their family members.
Reacting on the Congress plans to tie-up with Praja Rajyam Party, the Left Leader demanded that the PRP has betrayed the mandate of the people by aligning with the party it had contested against. He demanded that the Legislators of the PRP should resign and contest the elections again.
Mr Narayana also said the Congress High Command was held responsible for the political uncertainty in the state.
He criticized the Congress for resorting to illegal methods to strengthen its party by luring other party leaders with posts.
