The Fee Reimbursement to the underprivileged classes which was being made as an issue and taken to the streets by the TDP, Jagan and some students' organisations was faulted by the
Congress spokesman T Tulasi Reddy on Friday.
Taking exception to the opposition stand, it was clarified that Rs 2969 crore was budgeted for 2010-2011.
For the current academic year the government would release Rs 2566 crore towards Fee Reimbursement, which was top in the country said Dr Reddy.
In AP, a total of six categories of beneficiaries have been brought under the Fee Reimbursement programme against four in the previous Telugu Desam Party regime.
He told newsmen whether it was justified to accuse the ruling party of not attending to the poor students' fees problems.
During TDP rule only six lakh students received as against nearly 25 lakhs now with an income ceiling of Rs one lakh.
Earlier the income ceiling was Rs 33500 during TDP rule.
The Kiran Kumar Reddy government paid attention to include even the disabled category, BC, EBC and Minorities along with SC and ST students for Fee Reimbursement.
How far is TDP justified to agitate and make noise over the alleged nonpayment to the deserving candidates, Dr Reddy asked.
The TDP chief alleging that the government was misleading the students was incorrect and baseless, said Dr Reddy.
He said tht Jaganmohan Reddy should know that it was his father who had paid Rs 1565 crore in 2008-2009 while in 2010-2011 so far Rs 2969 crore had been paid to the poor students.
