KU SJAC block Ponnala's convoy, demand withdrawal of forces

Demanding withdrawal of Central Paramilitary Forces from the Telangana region, activists of the Students Joint Action Committee of Kakatiya University on Friday obstructed the convoy of Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah at Aswaraopalli in Raghunathapalli mandal in the district.

Raising slogans against the State government and Centre, the students demanded that the government withdraw forces immediately from the Telangana region. The students also warned the government of serious consequences if it did not withdraw the forces immediately.

The students had earlier come in a procession from the University and blocked the Minister’s convoy by forming a human chain. Mr Lakshmaiah was heading towards Janagam after releasing Godavari river water for the irrigation needs of farmers.

The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the students and took a few of them into custody. A few students suffered minor injuries in the lathicharge. The injured students were discharged from the hospital after primary treatment.

Tension prevailed in the area for some time as the agitating students picked up a heated argument with the police.
