Senior Telugu Desam Party leader K Yerrannaidu on Wednesday warned the state government of serious consequences if anything happens to the health of party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who is staging hunger fast pressing for better relief package for the rain hit farmers.
Talking to media persons at NTR Trust Bhavan, the senior leader said the party workers and the Naidu family were worrying about the Mr Naidu’s health condition.
He wondered why the state government was reluctant to take a decision in favour of farmers, ‘especially when many farmers have committed suicides due to indifferent attitude of government.’
“The crop was damaged in thousands of acres. When Mr Naidu raised the farmers issue in the Assembly, the Ministers and others did respond properly,” he said.
“How many farmers should commit suicide before the Congress, which portrays itself as champion of farmers’ welfare, decides to revise the paltry relief package,” Mr Yerrannaidu questioned.
He asked Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy not to be adamant and start to focus on the farmers problems and change his stand vis-à-vis the relief package to farmers.
The senior TDP leader also criticized the Congress MPs for not raising the farmers’ issue in Parliament effectively.
